Om Shanthi -ragalahari music review

Om Shanthi - An old Ilayaraja flavor
This is purely my personal opinion and does not aim at hurting anybody’s sentiments. I’ve posted my views which are purely mine. It is my contribution towards Ragalahari’s endeavor to promote Telugu cinema and music. - AR

‘Om Shanthi’ is a multi-starrer film with Navdeep, Nikhil, Kajal Agarwal, Bindhu Madhavi and Aditi Sharma. Director Prakash has designed this flick in a unique style with five lead characters and each character having a different story but on truth among five stories. Seshu Priyanka Chalasani is producing the film under 3 Angels Studio banner. After a very long time the great musician Ilayaraja has provided music for this flick. So definitely the expectations would be great. So let’s now move on to the review:

Chinna Polike Music: Ilayaraja Lyrics: Ananth Sriram Singer: Kunal Ganjawala,Sunidhi Chauhan
The album starts with a soothing musical ride ‘Chinna polike ledhu prema ninnaki netiki’ that brought me deep into the essence of Ilayaraja. One could feel the love and joy in the voices of Kunal Ganjawala and Sunidhi Chauhan. Ilayaraja, known for innumerable melody hits, comes up with this simple melody that heals the soul and relaxes the body. Lyrics penned by Ananth Sriram are impressive. What I personally feel is that sinceTelugu singers have more command on the language, they can perfectly balance the word pronunciation while rendering the vocals, thus can lead more command on such emotional tunes. Therefore I strongly recommend theTelugu singers for such songs to get the native feel.

Flying On The Moon Music: Ilayaraja Lyrics: Vanamaali Singer: Priya
The starting line flows in different waves and then expands the voices of chorus. ‘Nenu Nenuga’ is a soothing peppy number with perfect Ilayaraja brand. Vanamaaali’s heart rending notes, Ilayaraja’s tender beats and Priya’s echoing voice together makes the tune rejoice. What inspires me the most in Ilayaraja’s music is, the mild beats with a mix of various other instruments. This beautiful piece with soothing ambient tune tugs at the heart.

Chinna Polike(Sad) - Male Music: Ilayaraja Lyrics: Ananth Sriram Singer: Kunal Ganjawala
This is heart wrenching number that touches deep into our heart, is the repeat version of ‘Chinna Polike’. It is a sad song to soothe the mood of a disappointed lover. Kunal Ganjawala rendered the vocals and the lyrics are penned by Ananth Sriram. While composing such single line bits, the specialty in Ilayaraja lies in bringing out happy or sad moods by using the appropriate musical instruments within the given time.

Ottesi Chebutha Music: Ilayaraja Lyrics: Ramajogayya Sastry Singer: Karthik
It is an energetic number that starts off with Ramajogayya’s fun filled lyrics. The lyrics indicate that the hero is aspiring to become a hero. ‘Ottesi cheputha neno super star navutha, sattha choopistha, hits enno istha box office kolla kodutha baaja mogistha’. These lyrics are catchy and would attract the youth and masses. The entire song depicts the hero’s ambition of becoming a film hero. Karthik sang this youthful song but the composition is not up to Ilayaraja’s mark. Therefore I rate this song as passable.

Chinna Polike(Sad) - Female Music: Ilayaraja Lyrics: Ananth Sriram Singer: Sunidhi Chauhan
This is the female version of ‘Chinna Polike’ in sad mood. Sunidhi has a great voice, therefore her vocals have lifted the song to high voltage. But still I can’t compare her with Suseela or Chitra or Janaki or even Usha, as I once again feel that asinger with high command over language only can express the exact situational mood to the fullest extent.

Om Shanthi Music: Ilayaraja Lyrics: Ananth Sriram Singer: Toshi
The song starts off with the chorus “Om Shanti Om”. This is the title track but a time pass number in a disco style. Toshi did justice from his side.
